Water Infrastructure in Schools

Water Infrastructure in Schools

Water supply in the local villages of Bushbuckridge is severely constrained by lack of infrastructure and low levels of ground water.  Harvesting of rain water is essential to ensure water supply in local schools and conserve this precious resource.

A school water infrastructure project saw the installation of water harvesting tanks and gutters, and borehole maintenance in nine schools, thus providing water to 3962 students and educators. The project planning was done with the full participation of the school principals and plans were individualized to meet the needs of each school. The Trust contributed by providing 16 Jojo tanks and gutters for 8 schools.

Additionally the installation process was also used as a learning opportunity for nine trainees from five local construction businesses who currently receive small business development training and mentorship as participants of the Pfunanani Enterprise Development Project.  These local businesses will also receive certified water infrastructure construction training.
